After a brief look into sequencing, benefits, and history you will then dive into the practice of completing 108 Sun Salutations. No need to be discouraged or intimidated. You will be lead by an experienced teacher. Take breaks, come to seated, hydrate when needed while being surrounded by the support of uniting in this practice together as a class.
~A Japa mala or simply called a Mala is a string of beads use to count mantras or prayers in both Buddhism and Hinduism. ~Recitations of prayers are counted bead by bead and traditionally have 108 beads.
~In the Sanskrit alphabet, there are 54 letters, each having a masculine and feminine (shiva and shakti) giving a total of 108
It is said that there are 108 energy lines converging to and from the heart chakra
~Harshad means «great joy» in Sanskrit, 108 is a Harshad number (an integer divisible by the sum of its digits)
~Practicing 108 Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskar) will bring a potent energy to your body. While stretching and strengthening your muscles (physical body), you will also bring pointedness+peace to your mind.
About the Teacher:
Yoga teacher, Devoted Practitioner, Spiritual Seeker, Mommy; Melissa was born and raised in Colombia and moved to United States in 2005. She attended her first ever yoga class at the gym in South Florida and immediately fall in love with the practice. Melissa attended every class she possible could, she started relying on the yoga practice for her spiritual guidance. In 2013 she decided to go to India to explore the spiritual path of yoga at its origin. She absolutely fall in love with Indian culture and decided to become a yoga teacher studying a type of yoga that had lineage rooted in India. She was up for this incredible adventure and as a result she enrolled to attend a Sivananda's Teacher Training Course in Uttarkashi, India, located in the Himalayas where she submerged into a spiritual journey in an ashram devoting the days to asana practice, kriyas, and sadhana. She brought back all the knowledge acquired there with the intention of spreading love and peace to everyone. Melissa continued her studies in Yoga by finishing the 300-Hr Teacher Training in Ashtanga under the Regenerative Yoga School in 2017, where she learned advanced assisting in the yoga postures, Herbalism, Permaculture, advance Sanskrit, among other incredible skills. She also recently completed Level 1 Aerial Yoga Training as well as the Level 1 Reiki Certification Course. Her favorite quote is by Rumi: «Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and right doing, there is a field. I'll meet you there.”
This class is suitable for all levels. Space is limited. As a courtesy to the teacher and studio, registering in advance is highly encouraged.
